ALPINA.GENEVE new launch on Japanese market

(December 20, 2002)

G.M. International Co.Ltd.(Tokyo) starts distribution of Alpina watches from next spring.

The history of Alpina has started in 1883, when Gottilieb Hauser, watchmaker in Winterthur, founded the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation. A number of watchmakers joined to purchase watch components and organized their manufacturing. Soon, the Association started to develop its own calibers and enlarged its distribution. In 1901, the name "Alpina" was registered as a trademark. Since Alpina presented its first sport watch in steel in 1933, it manufactured many reliable automatic calibers, as well as automatic for women, the smallest and strongest ever made yet, mainly in sports-line.

Alpina has expanded its production into Glashutte and also enlarged its distribution in merger with Gruen in the early 20th century. But, in the seventies, Alpina suffered from the overwhelming emergence of quortz watches. In 1972, Alpina was incorporated with German investors, and remained only locally in Germany.

In February 2002, Frederique constant Geneve purchased Alpina willing to develop a new sport collection, perpetuating the Alpina heritage. The new Alpina collection of technical sport watches is composed of 25 mechanical models in two families.

The first family is "Heritage", that is to establish the link between the past and the present of the brand. The second is "Startimer", that is a very actual designed sport watch collection.
