BASELWORLD2006 - Swiss Exhibitors

BASELWORLD2006, the 34th World Watch and Jewelry Show opened on March 30 at Basel in Switzerland. 2,127 exhibitors from the watch and jewelry industry from 45 countries showcase their latest models and collections for 8 days until April 6, and 90,000 visitors from over 100 countries are expected.

Hall 1, 4 and 5 have been dedicated to watch brands. Branded jewelry is being shown in Hall2 with diamonds, precious stones, pearls and related sectors in Hall 3. The national pavilions is located in Hall 6. One of the highlights of this year 's global event for watches and jewelry was the opening of the new "First Avenue" in the Hall of Visions (Hall 2.2) where the growing significance of the design and presentation of jewelry watches by traditional jewelry brands are accommodated.

Swiss exhibitors are 427 in total. 283 brands in the watchmaking section, 53 brands in the jewelry section, and 91 brands in the related sectors.

Many of the models with grand complications display a high degree of originality and remarkable inventiveness. Number of models have been restyled to meet today's tastes, in perfect balance between the past, present and future.

Platinum and pink, white and yellow gold for haute horlogerie watches, and steel in the way it adapts to so many styles from sporty to urbane to elegant. New materials like ceramic, titanium and kevlar are being used more widely. Rubber is now making its appearance in large number of collections.
