BASELWORLD2010, the most important event in the world watch and jewelry business, opened in Basel/Switzerland on March 18. On the opening press conference, attended by Mr. Rene Kamm, CEO of the MCH Group, Ms. Sylvie Ritter, Show Director, Mr. Jacques J.Duchene, President of Exhibitors Committee, commented that “There was a lot of uncertainty and questions about the future at the 2009 exhibition. However, the 2010 event is sure to reveal a revitalized industry. We have the same number of exhibitors as we had in 2009."
Since the transformation project will be completed in April 2013, the schedule of Baselworld2013 is announced as April 25 to May 2, 2013. Baselworld2011 is scheduled on March 24 – 31 and Baselworld2012 is scheduled March 8 – 15.
Swiss Exhibitors Committee reported about the trend of Swiss watches at BASELWORLD2009 as follows, Present demand is focused more on classic, understated models suitable for any occasion. Rather than present a plethora of complications, watch companies have concentrated on practicality, legibility and comfort. High-tech materials like ceramic and titanium previously reserved for rather exclusive models, have become popular watchmaking materials. Other interesting features include the return of metal bracelets and models offered in a variety of sizes. As far as movements are concerned, emphasis has been placed on the development of usual functions, like more power reserve.
The total number of exhibitor of this year is 592 in watch section, 759 jewelry and 564 in related industry, total 1,952 exhibitors. Swiss exhibitors out of them are 292 in watch section, 40 in jewelry and 124 in related industry.
BASELWORLD2010 opens until March 25.
