Tokyo Watch Technicum WOSTEP Diploma Ceremony

Tokyo Watch Technicum, a watchmakers' school run by Rolex/Switzerland, held the WOSTEP(*) Diploma Ceremony on March 2, 2007 for the third class (started in April 2005).

The WOSTEP Diploma is to be awarded to students who completed 3000-hour training defined by WOSTEP and passed the 5 intermediate examinations and final examination. The third class of Tokyo Watch Technicum is 11 students and all of them passed the final examination.

At the ceremony, all the 11 students were handed over the diploma by Mr. Maarten Pieters, WOSTEP Director. Trainers and watchmakers from Swiss brands, Rolex staffs and companies which accepted students as new employee were also participated for congratulation.

Rolex SA. has set up the "Rolex Watchmakers' Award" as a prize to commend the most excellent student from two training centers and two schools respectively this year. The evaluation of assignments include not only the examination result but also the result and the deportment in the usual class, and the winner is elected by the awarding committee. Mr. Kensuke Konishi became the first winner in Tokyo Watch Technicum.

Moreover, it was announced that Mr. Bruce R.Bailey, President of Rolex Japan, newly became the Representative of Tokyo Watch Technicum at the ceremony, and Ms. Masayo Hadate, Administrative coordinator, became the Administrator of Tokyo Watch Technicum.

All the 11 students start to work from April at Swiss watch companies, retailers, wholesalers, watch importers or watch repair centers.

 

 


* WOSTEP (Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Educational Program)

WOSTEP, established in 1966, is a training center to foster watchmakers. It is globally recognized as a neutral institute, financed by its members, including Swiss watch manufactures, watchmaking organizations, other associated sectors and retailers in Switzerland and around the world. Since 1992, WOSTEP has been coordinating the Partnership in order to improve and standardize watchmaking on a global scale. It forms a partnership with schools which meet the strict criteria. As of February 2005, there are 12 WOSTEP Partnerships in 6 countries: Japan, USA, China, Sweden, France and Germany. Two of them exist in Japan; "Tokyo watch Technicum" and "Hiko Mizuno college of Jewelry". A student who completes 3000-hour training defined by WOSTEP in Partnership School and passes the 5 intermediate examinations and final examinations will be awarded Diploma which WOSTEP issues.
