The panel exhibition, “Imagine Switzerland” – The relationships between Japan and Switzerland established by Swiss Watches, to commemorate the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries, from March 13 to 26 at Hankyu Department Store, Umeda Honten in Osaka.
The Panel exhibition traces the footsteps of Minister Plenipotentiary Aime Humbert-Droz (President of the Swiss Watchmakers Association) and the Swiss delegation, which laid the foundations for friendly relations between Japan and Switzerland 160 years ago, and introduces the state of watches and clocks in Japan at that time. Along with the panel exhibition, the original books of "Le Japon Illustré" (published in 1870), one of Aime Humbert’s greatest achievements, is unveiled. In addition, a special display of the 1800s “pocket watches of trade firms” (Shokan Tokei) shown on the panel is on display.
For not only watch fans but also those who are interested in history, this opportunity to see a valuable collection will give a chance to learn about the the connections between Japan and Switzerland 160 years ago, with “watches” at the heart of the exhibition.
