From Saturday, February 7 to Monday, February 23 (a national holiday), Cartier's Ginza 2-chome boutique hosts “THE MAGIC OF CARTIER'S ARTISANS - Cartier's Savoir-Faire,” an exhibition spotlighting the exquisite craftsmanship and the soul embodied in the works of Cartier's artisans. At the Cartier Ginza 2-chome boutique, named “Maison de Panthère,” a variety of events reflecting the spirit of Cartier have been held under the theme of the Maison’s iconic Panthère motif. This time, the final chapter of the series, titled “THE MAGIC OF CARTIER’S ARTISANS – Cartier’s Savoir-Faire,” will take place. The event centers on Cartier’s savoir-faire cultivated throughout the Maison’s history, shining a light on the refined craftsmanship of Cartier’s artisans and the soul embodied in their creations.
Cartier’s “savoir-faire” refers not only to the exceptional technical mastery required to create extraordinary pieces, but also to a vision of beauty, the fusion of diverse talents and techniques, and the very creative act of bringing works to life by hand. Uniting ideas and craftsmanship, creativity and expertise, style and artistic technique, it forms the very core of the Maison’s creations. At Cartier’s High Jewelry ateliers, skilled artisans devote themselves to refining and passing down their techniques, breathing life into precious materials. By continually pushing the boundaries of creation and embedding uncompromising aesthetics into every detail, they produce Cartier’s one-of-a-kind creations that continue to shine across time.
At the venue, newly commissioned works by photographer Rinko Kawauchi featuring the High Jewelry atelier will be exhibited, along with 20 portraits focusing on female artisans working in the Paris and Swiss ateliers. In addition, there will be a glyptic (gem carving) demonstration by Philippe Nicolas, a recipient of France’s prestigious “Living National Treasure” distinction. Workshops will also be conducted by the Cartier Jewellery Institute, whose mission is to preserve advanced craftsmanship essential to jewelry making and to promote jewelry culture. Furthermore, seven artisans who create art pieces for Cartier boutiques around the world will visit Japan to showcase techniques passed down through generations, inspired by the Panthère motif.
This event offers a rare opportunity to experience the profound essence of the Maison’s savoir-faire. Admission is free, and advance reservations are available via Cartier’s official LINE special website.
