Roukokusai at Oumi Shrine and Japanese clock exhibition

On June 10, which is "Memorial day of Time" in Japan, Roukokusai (Water Clock Ceremony) is held at Oumi Shrine in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. Oumi Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Tenji who ordered to build the first water clock on June 10, 671. The ceremony is scheduled from 11:00 to 12:20.

As representatives of watch related industries, the board chairman and officers of the Osaka watch, jewelry & glasses retailers union will serve to dedicate watches and clocks. At the ceremony, dancing and playing by traditional Japanese music instrument called gagaku will be dedicated.

On the same day, a Japanese clock academic society-related people hold a Japanese clock exhibition at Oumi Kangakukan. One of the exhibits is an astronomical clock invented by Hisashige Tanaka in Edo period. Mr. Taira Sawada, a Japanese clock collector, owns it as his collection. The other exhibit is "Touzenshakudokei", which is a mechanical Japanese clock that enabled to read time with light of candles even in the dark at evening. Mr. Kazuo Okada, a Japanese clock collector, brings the valuable collection for this exhibit. This clock is very valuable collection, because this clock only remains under complete condition. The exhibition is scheduled from 12:30 to 14:00.
